Protein summary
The mucin genes encode epithelial glycoproteins, some of which are secreted and some membrane bound. Each of the genes contains at least one large domain of tandemly repeated sequence that encodes the peptide sequence rich in serine and/or threonine residues, which carries most of the O-linked glycosylation (Gendler and Spicer, 1995 [PubMed 7778880]).[supplied by OMIM, Aug 2008]. Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data because no single transcript was available for the full length of the gene. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments and on publication data (PMIDs: 9334251, 10512748, 10973822, 12958310).
Publication Note:
This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications.
