After several years of serving the research community, our ActiveDriverDB database will be retired on May 1st 2026. Please make sure to download any data you need and update your links or workflows before that date.
We want to sincerely thank all our users for their support, feedback, and collaboration over the years — your contributions have been invaluable to this project. A special thank you to Dr. Michal Krassowski for leading the development of our open-source software and database.

Protein summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a tumor suppressor and member of the serine/threonine kinase family. In response to cellular stress and proinflammatory cytokines, this kinase is activated through its phosphorylation by MAP kinases including MAPK1/ERK, MAPK14/p38-alpha, and MAPK11/p38-beta. The encoded protein is found in the nucleus but translocates to the cytoplasm upon phosphorylation and activation. This kinase phosphorylates heat shock protein HSP27 at its physiologically relevant sites. Two alternately spliced transcript variants of this gene encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2012]. Sequence Note: The RefSeq transcript and protein were derived from genomic sequence to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on alignments.

This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications.
